Meet the Family

The Little Giant family of ladders includes seven basic types, in a variety of models. For everyday use around the home or office:

• Type IA, which is made from heavy-wall 6005-T5 aluminum and tips the scales at a mere 42 pounds. It's rated to 300 pounds of loading, and comes in four models.
• A close relative is the Type IAA, which is a bit sturdier still, capable of holding up to 375 pounds with no problem; it comes in three models.

• Last in the general-use line is the Ultra Step stepladder, which extends up to eight feet, can be used on stairs and against walls, and has a carrying capacity of 300 pounds. This particular model, being a stepladder, isn't nearly as versatile as the standard Little Giant; however, it beats all other stepladders hollow, and can be had in either fiberglass or aluminum.

If you make a living in construction, by painting houses, or the like, you'll want an industrial version of the Little Giant. The SkyScraper will take you almost everywhere you need to go. This type comes in three models, which can extend to 15, 17, and 21 feet in height and are rated to 300 pounds each. Naturally, they can all be reworked into any of the 24 configurations the non-industrial models can achieve, with no problem at all -- in fact, the ease of set-up is one of the best arguments for buying an industrial Little Giant.

Also available are the Little Giant Fiberglass ladders, which are basically Type IA models cast in tough fiberglass resin. Lighter than aluminum ladders, these Little Giants can support loads of up to 300 pounds with ease. They also possess a revolutionary solid hinge like nothing you've ever before seen on a ladder, the result of lessons learned from five generations of Little Giant ladders. Then there's the classic Type I, which is rated for loads of up to 250 pounds, but naturally can handle several times that weight. This nifty model weighs just 32 pounds, and can fit into a space just four feet, seven inches long -- smaller than the back seats of most cars.

Finally, let's talk about the Little Jumbo, the acme, sine qua non, and quintessence of the modern stepladder all rolled into one. These stepladders are ideal for home use, and come in three models that offer the ideal step up when you need it; two-, three-, and four-step models are available. This stepladder is made of tough corrosion-resistant aluminum, the steps are rubberized and textured for ease of traction, and it folds up into a package less five inches deep.
